Bill Holtan has had a love and passion for hunting dogs all his life starting out training and hunting over retrievers and finally switching to pointing dogs. After many years of hunting and competing in field trials as an amateur handler, Bill started training for the public in 2003. In the time following that decision Bill and his family have relocated from Northern MN to Central ND in search of the abundant wild upland bird population that the area offers. The summers and falls are spent training on a great population of Sharptailed Grouse, Hungarian Partridge and Pheasants then moving to the woods of
MN and WI to train on Ruffed Grouse and Woodcock, then in the winter Bill heads south to Texas and Oklahoma to train on wild Bobwhite Quail. In a nutshell the training program consists of almost exclusively wild birds.
Whether you are looking for a class hunting companion or you are looking for someone to develop your field trial prospect to its utmost potential Bill can meet your needs.
Our field trial program concentrates on shooting dogs whether they be handled from foot or horseback, with an emphasis on finding and handling wild birds, handling and running to the front while retaining all their god given flash and brilliance both on the ground and on birds. We will not rush any dog to keep our schedule and sacrifice the the very qualities we desire the most in a true trial dog, flash, fire and sparkle.
I have made a decision to stop training for the public at this time. I cannot commit to the travel that is needed to develop and field trial a top notch string of dogs. My empahsis from now on will be to develop my own small string of trial dogs, with the ability to compete at a high level. In addition I will be looking to raise a few litters of setters and pointers a year. In selecting these matings particular attention will be made to bird finding ability, extreme class and confirmation. Started and finished dogs will be available at times.
I have really found alot of enjoyment in taking photo's and have included some of those in the website also, I hope you enjoy them.
